Two people were killed in a clash between two rival groups of villagers over establishing supremacy at Najarpur village in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Saiful Islam, 17, son of Shafiqul Islam and Rahat, 22, son of Rabiullah of the upazila.

Adil Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Raipura Police Station, said there had been an enmity between Rubel group and Based group centering the Upazila Parishad by-election following the death of vice-chairman candidate Sumon.

As a sequel to the enmity, both groups equipped with arms attacked each other on Tuesday morning, leaving one killed on the spot and another injured, said Sujan Chandra Sarkar, additional superintendent of Narsingdi district.

The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

A number of crude bombs were exploded in the area, creating panic among people.

Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble, reports UNB.
