
Bangladesh recorded 1,056 new suspected measles cases and five additional deaths linked to measles symptoms in the past 24 hours, according to health authorities.
A bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday said 62 measles cases were confirmed between 8:00am Tuesday and 8:00am Wednesday. No confirmed measles deaths were reported during the period.
Since March 15, the country has reported a total of 8,834 confirmed measles cases, while the number of suspected infections has climbed to 67,079.
Health data also showed that 88 people have died from confirmed measles since the outbreak began, while 472 deaths have been reported among suspected cases.
Meanwhile, 49,903 patients have recovered from the disease so far, according to the DGHS.
The latest figures come as health authorities continue monitoring the outbreak and urge greater awareness to help contain the spread of the disease.
