
At least nine more children have died in the past 24 hours from measles and measles-like symptoms, underscoring growing concern over the spread of the disease, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
Of the latest deaths reported until 8:00am Tuesday, three were confirmed as measles-related, while six others were classified as suspected cases.
With these new fatalities, the total number of confirmed measles deaths has risen to 47, while suspected deaths have reached 226 since March 15.
Health data also show a sharp rise in infections. In the past 24 hours, 1,276 suspected cases were recorded, bringing the total number of suspected infections to 34,662 during the period.
Meanwhile, 163 new confirmed cases were reported, pushing the total number of confirmed infections to 4,856.
Since mid-March, a total of 23,348 suspected measles patients have been hospitalised, of whom 19,991 have recovered and been discharged.
Health officials said the situation remains under close monitoring and stressed the importance of preventive measures to contain the spread of the highly contagious but preventable disease.
