A farmer was killed in a lightning strike while working in the Bajanti Haor area under Khaliajuri upazila of the district this afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Sudhir Das, 43, son of Rajendra Das, a resident of Chakua village under Chakua Union of the upazila.

According to local and police sources, the accident occurred around 1pm while Sudhir was working on his agricultural land during the peak Boro crop season. Suddenly, the sky became overcast and a thunderbolt struck him, leaving him critically injured.

Fellow farmers rescued and rushed him to the Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared Sudhir dead.
