Youth killed in Netrakona lightning strike

A youth was tragically killed after being struck by lightning while retrieving a traditional fish trap beside his home in Madan upazila of the district early Thursday morning.


The incident occurred around at 5.00 am in Joypasha village under Kaitail union of the upazila. 

The deceased was identified as Rajib, 24, son of Sonali Mia of the same village.

According to police, Rajib went out in the rain to collect a bair-a traditional bamboo fish trap used for catching fish-from a nearby area beside his house.

During the process, he was struck by a sudden lightning bolt and died at the scene.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Salah Uddin Karim of Madan Police Station confirmed the incident.

Deputy Commissioner Khandakar Mushfiqur Rahman said that the government has provided immediate financial assistance of Taka 20,000 to the victim's family to help cover funeral expenses, reports BSS.
