Modi Condoles Khaleda Zia’s Death, Honors Her Legacy

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of former Bangladesh Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia today, 30 December, praising her significant contributions to her country and to India-Bangladesh relations.

“Deeply saddened to learn about the passing of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Dhaka. Our sincerest condolences to her family and the people of Bangladesh. May the Almighty grant her family the strength to bear this tragic loss,” Modi said on his official X account.

He added, “As the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh, her important contributions towards the development of Bangladesh, as well as India-Bangladesh relations, will always be remembered.”

Modi recalled his “warm meeting” with Begum Zia in Dhaka in 2015 and expressed hope that her vision and legacy would continue to guide bilateral cooperation. He also posted pictures of the meeting alongside his message.
