The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to working with Bangladesh to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the South Asian region.

This assurance came during a recent meeting in Washington, DC, between Bangladesh’s National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau at the State Department.

According to official statements, the two sides discussed the interim government’s role in guiding Bangladesh toward its next national elections, as well as the growing bilateral trade and commercial partnership.

“The Deputy Secretary of State met with Bangladesh’s National Security Adviser and discussed the interim government’s efforts ahead of the upcoming national polls,” said US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce during a regular media briefing on 20 June.

Bruce added that both sides also explored ways to deepen the US-Bangladesh relationship, particularly through expanded trade and investment cooperation.

The US Deputy Secretary of State also acknowledged the leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus during a pivotal time for Bangladesh and reiterated Washington’s continued support for the country’s democratic transition.

In addition to domestic political developments, the two sides discussed the protracted Rohingya refugee crisis, ongoing tariff negotiations, and regional geopolitical issues affecting South Asia.

The meeting highlighted both nations’ shared interest in upholding democratic values, fostering economic growth, and ensuring peace and stability across the region.
