Xi Jinping meets Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing during WWII victory anniversary in Moscow, May 9, 2025.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has hailed the enduring "Paukphaw" (fraternal) friendship between China and Myanmar, as the two countries mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. In a message commemorating the milestone on Sunday, Xi emphasized that the bilateral relationship has withstood the test of time and continues to deepen.
Xi noted that over the past seven and a half decades, the two nations have upheld the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit, maintaining good-neighborly relations, enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation, and supporting each other on issues related to their respective core interests. He said this long-standing partnership serves as a model for friendly international exchanges.
Recalling his meeting with Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing in Russia in May, Xi highlighted the important consensus reached on jointly building a China–Myanmar community with a shared future. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening its strategic ties with Myanmar.
President Xi stated that China is ready to use the 75th anniversary as an opportunity to advance high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and jointly implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. He expressed hope that these efforts will bring tangible benefits to both nations.
In addition to Xi’s remarks, he and Min Aung Hlaing exchanged congratulatory messages to celebrate the occasion.
