Gambian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mamadou Tangara met with Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at the Bangladesh Secretariat today to discuss matters of bilateral interest, improving relations, and enhancing trade and investment.

The Commerce Adviser praised Gambia as a friendly nation, noting Bangladesh's deep respect for Gambia's support on the Rohingya issue. He suggested that strengthening the bilateral relationship could be achieved through increased investment.

Acknowledging the small existing trade volume, Bashir emphasized the potential for both countries to boost exports, particularly in the agricultural and agri-processed sectors. He encouraged Gambia to invest in these areas in Bangladesh.

In response, Dr. Tangara expressed Gambia’s pride in supporting the Rohingya community and highlighted the potential to enhance people-to-people connections by boosting trade. He also expressed interest in importing frozen fish from Bangladesh and exporting peanuts to Bangladesh.

The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman and the Non-resident High Commissioner of Gambia to Bangladesh, Mustapha Jawara.
