US-Bangladesh Cooperation to Continue: US Ambassador

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen has said the partnership and cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States in developing the country’s railway connectivity will continue.

He made the remarks after arriving in Saidpur on Monday aboard the Nilsagar Express from Parbatipur. The ambassador said it was his first journey on a train in Bangladesh.

Referring to his visit to the Parbatipur Railway Workshop, Christensen said the locomotive of the Nilsagar Express was manufactured by a US company. He said the United States has been contributing to the development of Bangladesh’s railway sector by providing modern technology.

He also expressed hope that his visit would help further strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two countries.

Upon his arrival at Saidpur Railway Workshop, the ambassador was welcomed with flowers by railway officials, including Divisional Superintendent Shah Sufi Nur Mohammad, Works Manager Momtazul Islam and labour leaders.

He later visited the historic President’s Saloon preserved at the railway workshop, which is associated with Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, as well as various sections of the workshop, the railway museum and several British-era structures.

Christensen also visited a historic Catholic church, a Christian cemetery and the adjacent Chini Mosque.
