Malaysian envoy calls on Defence Adviser
Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam and Malaysian High Commissioner (HC) to Bangladesh Mohd Shuhada Othman today discussed ways to further strengthen defence and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
This issue was discussed when the Malaysian envoy paid a courtesy call on Defence Adviser at his office at the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment today, said an ISPR release here this noon.
During the meeting, they also discussed the longstanding friendly ties between Bangladesh and Malaysia, defence cooperation and various issues of mutual interest.
They laid emphasis on enhancing the professional skills of the armed forces of the both countries, organising regular joint military training, exchanging especialised courses and training programmes, and strengthening overall capabilities.
The prospects of modern military technology transfer, exchange of information and expertise, military equipment and logistic support, and joint partnerships in defence equipment production were also discussed in the meeting.
The Malaysian High Commissioner appreciated the contribution, sacrifice, discipline and professionalism of the Bangladesh Armed Forces in UN peacekeeping missions.
He said the contribution of Bangladeshi peacekeepers to global peacekeeping is a shining example in the international arena, the release said.
PM's Defence Adviser highlighted the existing fraternal relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
He expressed the hope that the friendship between the two countries would be further strengthened through enhanced defence and strategic cooperation, reports BSS.
