
The luncheon took place at the Seri Perdana Complex on Monday.
Upon their arrival, the two leaders were warmly welcomed by students from several schools in Putrajaya, Dengkil, Kajang, and Sungai Merab, who greeted them with chants of “Welcome to Malaysia.”
A cultural performance by dancers from Istana Budaya also marked the occasion.
The event was attended by members of Tarique Rahman’s delegation including his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman as well as Anwar Ibrahim’s wife, Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Several Malaysian cabinet ministers and senior government officials were also present.
The Bangladesh prime minister arrived in Malaysia on June 21 at Anwar’s invitation, marking his first official bilateral overseas visit since taking office in February 2026.
Trade between Malaysia and Bangladesh reached RM12.18 billion (US$2.84 billion) in 2025. Malaysia exported goods worth RM10.08 billion (US$2.35 billion) to Bangladesh, primarily petroleum products, while imports from Bangladesh totalled RM2.10 billion (US$500 million), consisting mainly of textiles, garments, and footwear, reports Malaysian national news agency Bernama.
Bangladesh is Malaysia’s 28th-largest trading partner worldwide and its second-largest trading partner in South Asia after India, reports UNB.
