Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury, member, BNP standing committee, said on Monday that the election of Abdus Sattar Dulal as president of Disabled People's International is a world hour for Bagladesh.
Addressing a reception accorded to Mr Dulal who is the Executive Director of Bangladesh Pratibandhi Kalyan Samity (BPKS) at Engineers' Institute, he said all development plans in Bangladesh in future should be inclusive and all amenities friendly to people with disabilities.
A veteran fighter for disabled people's rights since the eighties of the last century Abdus Sattar Dulal has contributed to the policy on disabled people in Bangladesh of 1995, and many International documents on disabled people's rights. He has been the disability rights champion of UNESCAP for many years.
The BPKS Abdus Sattar Dulal heads works for skills development and empowerment of disabled people all over Bangladesh, and it has 2000 grassroots organisations of disabled people.
Amir Khashru said his party was preparing for the next elections as the people are eager to cast their own votes after many years. If BNP is elected all new building plans will be allowed only with accessibility provisions for all and disabled people will be integrated to the broader national economy.
Presided over by Mostafa Kamal Majumder, editor, GreenWatch Dhaka, the programme was also addressed by Tabith Awal, president, Bangladesh Football Federation, Abi Abdullah, former secretary to the government, S. M. Jahangir, social leader of Dakkhin Khan, Shahidul Islam, chairman, reception preparatory committee, Anwar Hazari, chairman, BPKS and other leaders of BPKS district level organisations.
Tabith Awal praised the leadership qualities of Abdus Sattar Dulal and said his services helped improve the quality of life of disabled people of Banlgadesh.
Abdus Sattar Dulal urged the disabled people of Bangladesh to make fresh vows to contribute to the development of the country.
