A suspected mugger was killed in a lynch-mob attack at Tongi Station Road in Gazipur on Wednesday morning.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Md Zillur Rahman, Inspector (Investigation) of Tongi East Police Station, said locals caught a young man red-handed while he was allegedly trying to snatch a mobile phone from a bus passenger in the morning.

At one stage, they beat him up mercilessly, leaving him critically injured.

Later he was taken to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy, reports UNB.
