He followed the footsteps of Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal to reach the milestone.
Mushfiqur Rahim was the first batter to achieve the feat against Sri Lanka in 2013 when he made exactly 200. The veteran batter remains the only Bangladesh cricketer to hit more than one double century. He, so far, struck three double centuries in his career.
Tamim Iqbal became the second Bangladeshi batter when he made 206 against Pakistan in 2015 before Shakib Al Hasan joined them in 2017 by hitting 217 against New Zealand.
After hitting the double century that bailed the side from the precarious state, Hridoy went only to eclipse Mushfiqur Rahim's 219 to be the highest individual scorer for Bangladesh in this format.
He came into the crease when Bangladesh was in troublesome 22-2. From them he steered the side past a torrid period-firstly with a 73-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim in fourth wicket.
After Mushfiqur's dismissal for 34, Bangladesh tasted another collapse losing three wickets in quick succession. With 184-7, Hridoy shared 117-run with Taijul Islam in eighth wicket to take the side past 300.
During the morning session, Hridoy raised his maiden century off 171 balls, by taking a single against Roston Chase.
He then unleashed a spectacular attack on West Indies bowlers to reach his second hundred off just 123 balls and by doing so, converted the maidencentury into a double off 304 balls when he guided Jomel Warrican delivery to long-off for a single.
In doing so, he also became the first Bangladeshi batter to convert his firstcentury to double one and it came in his just third Test. In the last two Tests, he only made 54 runs, reports BSS.
