The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Saturday took possession of two flats in Dhaka's Gulshan belonging to fugitive former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed, months after a court ordered their seizure.

A court ordered the seizure of the two flats and several other assets in December last year as part of an investigation into the former minister's alleged illegal wealth.

A joint ACC team, led by Deputy Director Mashiur Rahman, arrived at the Gulshan-2 property at around 10:00am to execute the court order.

The two flats were opened in the presence of an executive magistrate before the ACC formally took possession.

According to ACC officials, the flats have an estimated market value of Tk18 crore and are believed to be part of the former minister's alleged illicit assets.

However, the ACC suspects that valuable furniture and other movable assets had already been removed from the flats before the commission assumed control.

Earlier in January, a court issued arrest warrants against Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed and other accused in connection with the case.
