Gold Hits Record Tk2.16 Lakh per Bhori in Bangladesh
Gold prices in Bangladesh have surged to a record high, reaching over Tk2.16 lakh per bhori (11.664 grams).
Jewellers increased the price of the precious metal by around Tk2,613, bringing it to Tk2,16,332 per bhori, following a rise in the local market price of pure gold.
The Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) approved the hike during a meeting on Tuesday.
On Monday, the gold price was set at Tk2,13,719 per bhori, already breaking previous records.
With the latest increase, 22-carat gold now costs Tk18,547 per gram, and 21-carat gold Tk17,704 per gram, according to a press release signed by BAJUS committee chairman Masudur Rahman.
The price of 18-carat gold has been fixed at Tk15,175 per gram, while traditional gold costs Tk12,633 per gram. The new tariffs will take effect on Wednesday.
Silver prices, however, remain unchanged. Currently, 22-carat silver is Tk532 per gram, 21-carat Tk507, 18-carat Tk435, and traditional silver Tk326 per gram.
Buyers must also pay an additional 5% VAT imposed by the government, along with a minimum 6% making charge set by BAJUS. The making charge may vary depending on design and quality.
