Gold Price Hits Record Tk2.13 Lakh per Bhori

The price of gold has soared to a new record high in Bangladesh, surpassing Tk2.13 lakh per bhori (11.664 grams) following a sharp rise in the local market.

According to a decision by the Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS), the price of gold has been increased by Tk4,619 to Tk2,13,719 per bhori. The new rates will take effect from Tuesday.

Earlier, on 9 October, the price of gold had reached Tk2,09,100 per bhori, which was then the highest in the country’s history.

Under the revised rates, the price of 22-carat gold has been fixed at Tk18,323 per gram, while 21-carat gold will cost Tk17,490 per gram. The price of 18-carat gold has been set at Tk14,991 per gram, and traditional gold at Tk12,476 per gram.

Silver prices have also been adjusted upwards. The new rates set 22-carat silver at Tk532 per gram, 21-carat at Tk507, 18-carat at Tk435, and traditional silver at Tk326 per gram.

Buyers will continue to pay an additional 5% value-added tax (VAT) imposed by the government, along with a minimum 6% making charge fixed by BAJUS. However, the final making charge may vary depending on design and quality, according to the committee.
