A 22-member business delegation from the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), led by its President Taskeen Ahmed, departed for Colombo today on a four-day official visit aimed at strengthening trade and investment relations between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
According to a press release issued by the chamber, the visit seeks to explore emerging opportunities and forge stronger bilateral ties across a range of high-potential sectors.
During their stay, the DCCI delegates will participate in multiple bilateral business forums and B2B matchmaking sessions with key Sri Lankan trade bodies, including the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka, National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Sri Lanka.
In addition to engaging with the private sector, the delegation is scheduled to hold meetings with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Industries, Deputy Foreign Minister, and Deputy Finance Minister to discuss avenues for policy-level cooperation and investment facilitation.
Despite the long-standing relationship between the two countries, bilateral trade remains modest. In the fiscal year 2023–24, trade volume stood at just USD 134.06 million. The DCCI hopes to expand this figure significantly by promoting collaboration in sectors such as agro-processing, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, tourism and hospitality, renewable energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, IT and digital services, and financial services.
The visit underscores DCCI’s continued efforts to position Bangladesh as a competitive destination for Sri Lankan investment and joint ventures, fostering mutually beneficial economic growth in the region.
