“The orphans have the rights on the rawhides of the sacrificial animals and we held high-level meeting to ensure its fair price. We’ve decided to provide 30,000 metric tons of salt to the Madrasahs and orphanages to preserve the rawhides until they can have fair prices,” he said.
The Commerce Adviser said this while briefing reporters after the first meeting on ensuring proper management on Qurbani related matters held at the ministry conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat.
He said that training would be imparted to the persons concerned of the madrasahs and orphanages on the management and preservation of rawhides while a video would be made and thus circulated to create massive awareness on proper preservation of rawhides.
Bashir said earlier a huge number of rawhides tend to generate in the country during the Holy Eid-ul-Azha while many had to sell the rawhides at less price apprehending that such rawhides would get rotten.
“But, this won’t happen this time,” he added.
He said the Chief Adviser himself wants that the poor people get the just price of the rawhides while the commerce ministry would sit again tomorrow to fix the prices of rawhides ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.
About the day’s meeting outcomes, he said that they have decided not to allow buying and selling of sacrificial animals outside of the fixed huts of the sacrificial animals side by side discussed the demand and supply sides of such sacrificial animals.
The Commerce Adviser also said that the government might allow export of rawhides directly if desired prices are not availed in the local market.
Adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Farida Akhter said that fair market, fair transportation and fair prices of sacrificial animals would be ensured this time.
She said that her ministry has been working relentlessly so that no violent act is done centering the sacrificial animals side by side no harmful medicine is used to fattening the sacrificial animals.
Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Hafiz, Special Assistant to Chief Adviser (CA), said that the Bangladesh Police especially the Highway Police, would remain vigil to address the incidents of extortion centering the sacrificial animals-laden vehicles.
Besides, he said that the Bangladesh Army personnel would also remain active to this end.
The CA’s Special Assistant said that a central cell and a hotline number alongside the 999 number would remain in force during that time through which anyone can lodge their complain centering any untoward incident.
Earlier, a high-level 17-member committee was formed to ensure fair pricing for sacrificial animal hides during the upcoming Holy Eid-ul-Azha.
The committee, led by Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin, will also oversee animal transportation, waste management, and the proper use of Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) in hide processing, reports BSS.
