Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 693 pieces of smuggled Indian sarees worth about Tk 59 lakh in a drive in the border area of Brahmanpara upazila.

Lieutenant Colonel SM Shariful Islam, commander of BGB-60 Battalion in Sultanpur, confirmed the matter this afternoon.

“Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team from Shashidal BOP in Brahmanpara upazila conducted a special operation in the South Tetabhumi area around 1:00am,” he said.

The seized goods are yet to be handed over to the Cumilla Customs Office, reports BSS.

The Sultanpur BGB Battalion has continued its regular operations and intelligence activities to prevent smuggling and ensure security along the frontiers, the BGB official added.
