Saudi Arabia has shown interest in launching operations of its new airline, Riyadh Air, in Bangladesh to strengthen air connectivity between the two nations.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Saudi Ambassador Abdullah Zafer H. Bin Abiyah and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam at the Secretariat.
State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat also attended the meeting, where Bangladesh highlighted the need to improve services for passengers travelling on Saudi airlines.
In response, the envoy assured that steps would be taken to enhance service standards in the near future. He confirmed Saudi Arabia’s interest in establishing a station and launching flights of Riyadh Air, the country’s second flag carrier, in Bangladesh.
The state minister urged Saudi authorities to consider operating flights beyond Dhaka, suggesting routes from Sylhet and Chattogram to better serve passengers across the country.
Both sides expressed optimism about further strengthening longstanding bilateral ties and emphasised the importance of joint initiatives, particularly in developing Bangladesh’s tourism sector with Saudi cooperation.
