Eminent Lalon Singer Farida Parveen is no more
Dhaka, Sept 13 – Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned folk singer Farida Parveen, noting that her renditions of Lalon’s songs have touched the hearts of people for decades.
“Her songs elevated the inner philosophy and meaning of life in our culture to a new level,” he said in a condolence message.
Widely regarded as the Queen of Lalon Geeti, the celebrated folk singer passed away at 10:15pm on Saturday while undergoing treatment. She was 71.
The Chief Adviser recalled that although Farida Parveen performed in diverse genres, including Nazrul Sangeet and patriotic songs, she was best known to the audience as 'Lalon Kanya'.
Despite facing many adversities, he said, Farida Parveen never distanced herself from music. “Her passion for singing inspired generation after generation.”
He said the contribution of the Ekushey Padak-winning artiste to the country’s music will be cherished forever, nurturing fresh thoughts and creativity in Bangladesh’s cultural sphere.
The Chief Adviser prayed for the eternal peace of her departed soul and conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.

Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has expressed profound sorrow over the death of legendary Lalon singer Farida Parveen.
In a condolence message, Farooki said the country’s music scene has suffered an irreparable loss with her passing.
“She carefully recorded and promoted Bengali songs, especially Lalon Sangeet. Her renditions not only resonated with melodious emotion, but also elevated the deep philosophy and cultural essence within Lalon’s music to new heights,” the adviser said.
“Her artistic journey has inspired generations, and Farida Parveen’s contributions will forever be remembered. We pay our deepest respects to her.”
Farooki also prayed for the forgiveness of her departed soul and extended heartfelt condolences to her bereaved family.
Farida Parveen, an Ekushey Padak-winning folk icon widely regarded as the Queen of Lalon song, passed away on Saturday night at Universal Medical College Hospital in Mohakhali. She was 71.
Hospital Managing Director Dr Ashis Kumar Chakraborty confirmed to UNB that the singer breathed her last at 10:15pm.- UNB
