The interim government has appointed Md. Ehsanul Hoque as the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration.

Earlier, he had been serving as Senior Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division on a contractual basis.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification today confirming the appointment, signed by Samiul Amin, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry's Senior Appointment-1 section.

The post of Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration had remained vacant for nearly three weeks after the transfer of Senior Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman on September 21.

Following the student-people's mass uprising, the interim government had appointed Mokhlesur Rahman as Senior Secretary to the post on a two-year contractual basis, but later reassigned him as a member of the Industry and Energy Division of the Planning Commission.

Sources said Md Ehsanul Hoque had been sent on retirement from the post of Additional Secretary during the previous Awami League government.

Later, on August 19, 2024, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification appointing him as Secretary on contract, and the next day, he was promoted to the rank of Senior Secretary.

Talking to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Md Ehsanul Hoque said, "Transfers and postings are a routine process in public administration. Everyone has to serve wherever they are assigned."

He expressed his gratitude to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and others concerned for his new appointment, adding that he would carry out his future duties in line with policy directives from the higher authorities.

He also thanked officials of the Road Transport and Highways Division for their cooperation during his previous tenure.

Earlier this morning, several officials from different ministries, departments, and directorates visited his office to greet him with flowers following the issuance of his appointment notification, reports BSS.
