On Tuesday (July 22) at around 5:00 AM, Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, confirmed the news. He said that a 9-year-old child named Bappi, who had sustained 35% burns, died in the ICU early this morning.
Earlier, around 3:15 AM, he reported the deaths of four more students: Erickson (13), Arian (13), Nazia (13), and Sayan Yusuf (14). Erickson had suffered 100% burns, Arian 85%, Nazia 90%, and Sayan Yusuf 95%.
Additionally, around 1:00 AM, Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman had reported the earlier deaths of Tanvir Ahmed (Grade 8), Afnan Faiyaz (Grade 7), Maheerin Chowdhury (Head Coordinator of Milestone’s Primary Section), and Abdullah Samin (Grade 6). Currently, 41 people remain under treatment in various wards and the ICU.
However, according to the latest update from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the official death toll stands at 20. ISPR also reported that the bodies of eight identified victims have been handed over to their families. This information was shared at 1:30 AM on Monday night.
Earlier at 8:00 PM, ISPR issued a statement confirming 20 deaths and 171 injured in the crash. The injured are being treated at various hospitals across Dhaka. The statement included the number of injured and deceased admitted to different hospitals.
Context:
Earlier in the afternoon, a military fighter jet crashed into a building of Milestone School in Diabari, Uttara, Dhaka. Classes were ongoing in the building at the time of the incident.
