Road Crash kills 5 on way to Islami Andolan BD’s rally

At least five people were killed and 25 others injured after their bus hit a truck from behind in Srinagar, Munshiganj, while traveling to attend Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s grand rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.


The accident occurred on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Srinagar Upazila of Munshiganj early Saturday, said Md. Swaib Hossain, Khulna Divisional Organizing Secretary of Islami Andolan Bangladesh.

Farmer electrocuted in Natore

The deceased were identified as Jalal Uddin (65), president of Nawapara Union Islami Andolan Bangladesh in Jashore Sadar; Zillur Rahman (65), son of Bazlur Rahman of Madhugram in the same union; Golam Mostafa (55), a resident of Sheikhhati Ghurulia area and secretary of women and family welfare affairs of the district committee of Islami Andolan Bangladesh; Rawshan Ali of Ghurulia village, a member of Nawapara Union Islami Andolan; and bus helper Hasib Uddin (30), son of Md. Bappi of Pagladah village.

Swaib Hossain said that leaders and activists from Nawapara Union Islami Andolan Bangladesh left in a reserve bus on Friday night to participate in the rally.

The bus, operated by Hamdan Express, carried more than fifty leaders and activists.

Around 3 a.m., when the bus reached between Singpara-Nawapara and Hasara Bridge-2 on the expressway, it hit a truck, leaving five dead on the spot, reports UNB. 

The bodies of the four deceased have been handed over to their families. Four of the victims were leaders and activists of the organization, while the fifth was the bus helper, he added.
