Couple dies taking selfie on train tracks in Dhaka

A couple died after being hit by a speedy train while taking a selfie in the capital's Airport area on Saturday evening.

The deceased were identified as Masum, 28, and his wife Iti Akhter, 25, residents of Khilkhet area in Dhaka.

The accident occurred around 6:30pm when the couple was taking a selfie near a train line. At that time, the Jamuna Express hit them, causing them to fall and die on the spot, said Zainal Abedin, officer-in-charge of Kamalapur Railway Police Station.

Masum hailed from Narsingdi and Iti from Mymensingh.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent them to the hospital morgue for autopsy, reports UNB.

The bodies will be handed over to the family members after the post-mortem, the OC added.

No case has been filed in connection with the incident yet, he said.
