Two killed in Habiganj road crash

Two persons, including a woman, were killed and three others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Madhabpur upazila of the district today.


The deceased were identified as autorickshaw driver Akkas Mia, 38, son of Babu Mia of Bengadoba area in Madhabpur and Monowara Begum, 70, wife of late Kamrul Hasan of the same area.

The accident occurred around 11.15 am in Dakshin Bejura area when a CNG-run autorickshaw attempted to overtake another autorickshaw while crossing a bridge. During the maneuver, the vehicle collided head-on with a sand-laden drum truck coming from the opposite direction.

According to police, Akkas Mia died on the spot due to the impact of the collision. Local residents rushed three critically injured passengers to Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex, where Monowara Begum was declared dead by the attending physician.

The two other injured passengers, identified as Taklima Begum and Liton Mia, were later transferred to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment, reports BSS.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shayestaganj Highway Police Station Shuvo Ranjan confirmed the matter.
