Palestinians make their way with belongings as they fled their homes, after Israeli air strikes, in the northern Gaza Strip May 16, 2025.

The death toll from Israeli attacks on Gaza has surpassed 54,000 since the conflict began, according to the Health Ministry in the besieged enclave.

In a statement issued on 27 May, the ministry reported that at least 79 people were killed and 163 injured in the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of casualties to 54,056 dead and 123,129 wounded.

The ministry added that these figures do not include data from hospitals in the North Governorate, where access remains restricted.

It also noted that many victims are still trapped under rubble or lying on the streets, with ambulance and civil defence teams unable to reach them due to the ongoing hostilities.
