Democratic Party senators have denounced the US war on Iran, laying the blame at US President Donald Trump’s feet.

US Senator Chris Van Hollen has said Trump “continues to hide service member casualties” but “is now sending up to another 10,000 troops to his illegal war of choice in Iran”.

Van Hollen, who sits on the Senate foreign relations committee, said in a post on X, “When Trump says he’s planning on renewing his war next month, believe him”, adding that “Congress must cut off funding”.

Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, who also serves on the committee, has said “the cost of the disastrous, incompetently run Iran War is enormous”.

In a post on X, Murphy said, “You see it most clearly in gas prices, but the rising price of diesel – nearly twice what it was before the war – is increasing the cost of everything.”

US diesel prices hit a record high of $6.53 per gallon last week. Today, G7 countries agreed to release 100 million barrels of oil and fuel products in the coming weeks, starting with “substantial” amounts of diesel aimed at relieving price pressures, reports AL Jazeera.
