The latest exchange of attacks in the Persian Gulf has added new pressure to the preliminary agreement between Iran and the United States aimed at reaching a lasting end to the conflict.
Both Gulf nations strongly condemned the Iranian attacks. However, officials did not immediately say whether any targets had been hit or if there was any damage.
The U.S. military's Central Command said it carried out strikes on Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities and mine-laying capabilities.
The U.S. said the strikes came after a Panamanian-flagged oil tanker, Kiku, was attacked at sea early Saturday.
The tanker was carrying crude oil for Qatar's state-owned energy company. Qatar has been playing a key role in mediating talks between Iran and the United States, reports UNB.
