First dengue vaccine trial successful in the country

International Centre for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) has claimed that tests for dengue vaccine has been carried out successfully for the first time in the country.



International Centre for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) has claimed that tests for dengue vaccine has been carried out successfully for the first time in the country.

The joint test of ICDDR,B and Vermont University's Larner College of Medicine in the US showed that the vaccine is effective on all four types of dengue. This vaccine has been named TV-005 (Tetravelent).

ICDDR,B issues a press notification in this regard on Thursday (September 28). News of this success appeared in the international journal Lancet on Wednesday.

According to the release, the single-dose dengue vaccine TV-005 study showed that it is safe for administration in children and adults and able to induce immunity.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne virus. Mild symptoms of dengue include fever and bone pain, and severe cases include shock, bleeding and, in many cases death. There are four dengue virus serotypes, called DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3, and DEN-4. Any types of these dengue can make a person sick.
