Action against technology faciitated gender based violence
Dhaka, 15 October 2025: The Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) has launched a 15-day nationwide campaign to combat Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) in rural communities, marking the United Nations International Day of Rural Women.
Running from 15 to 30 October 2025, the campaign brings together representatives from civil society organizations, community media, academia, the technical community, local leadership, and rural citizens. Its objective is to raise awareness, promote collective action to end violence against women, and foster safe and inclusive digital spaces for all.
The initiative aims to strengthen national and community-based mechanisms for preventing and mitigating TFGBV. It also focuses on building awareness, resilience, and access to essential services and support—particularly for women, adolescent girls, youth, and marginalized groups most at risk. The campaign further highlights the critical role of media and multi-stakeholder engagement in ensuring protection, justice, and empowerment for survivors.
This nationwide campaign is being implemented under the project titled “Strengthening Resilience Against Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) and Promoting Digital Development.” The project is part of the NAGORIKATA: Civic Engagement Fund (CEF) initiative, with technical support from GFA Consulting Group and funding from the Embassy of Switzerland and Global Affairs Canada (GAC).
Throughout the campaign period, activities will include local events, radio and social media campaigns, online discussions, and press conferences hosted by six partner organizations. Nine community radio stations will broadcast awareness messages, and 180 individuals, both women and men, from 15 districts will be recognised for their contributions to women’s empowerment, prevention of violence, and rural development.
Award categories cover diverse contributions such as violence prevention, digital development, midwifery, agent banking, internet service, postal service, community health, journalism, legal aid, and women’s rights advocacy.
Implementation support is being provided by Speed Trust (Barishal and Patuakhali), NISHTHA Unnayan Sangho (Mymensingh), SETU (Kushtia), Pirojpur Gana Unnayan Samity (Pirojpur), and Agragati Sangstha (Satkhira)—along with nine community radio stations: Radio Nalta (Satkhira), Lokobetar (Barguna), Meghna (Charfassion, Bhola), Sagorgiri (Sitakunda, Chattogram), Sagor Dwip (Hatiya, Noakhali), Pollikontho (Moulvibazar), Chilmarir (Kurigram), Jhinuk (Jhenaidah), and Sarabela (Gaibandha).
The campaign is expected to increase community engagement, enhance digital safety awareness, and empower women and girls to report online abuse and seek justice with confidence—contributing to a safer, more inclusive digital Bangladesh. – Press release
