Two siblings died of suspected food poisoning at Wireless Mor in  the capital’s Hatirjheel area on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Afrida Chowdhury, 10, a class III student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College and her one-year-old brother Ilham Chowdhury, children of Mosleh Uddin Chowdhury.

Golam Mortuza, Officer-in-Charge of Hatirjheel police station, said the bodies were handed over to the family on Sunday following post-mortem examinations.

Police said children’s father Mosleh Uddin Chowdhury, mother Saida Jakawat Ara, and their two children had dinner together on Friday night before going to sleep.

On Saturday morning, Afrida fell sick and was taken to a local hospital where doctors declared her dead around 7am. Her body was later brought home.

Shortly afterwards, Ilham began vomiting and became critically ill.

He was rushed to another hospital where he died in the afternoon while undergoing treatment.

Both parents also became sick but recovered after receiving medical treatment, reports UNB.

“Initially, it appears the children may have died from food poisoning, but the exact cause of death will be confirmed after receiving the post-mortem reports,” the OC said.
