Father, son electrocuted while irrigating farmland in Gopalganj

A man and his 12-year-old son died after being electrocuted while irrigating their farmland at Char Barofa village in Gopalganj Sadar upazila on Thursday morning.


The deceased are Enayet Khan, 40, son of late Shamsu Khan, and his son Mehedi Hasan Khan, a fifth-grade student at a local school.

Police and locals said Enayet went to the farmland with his son in the morning to irrigate it using an electric water pump.

At one point, he was electrocuted while working on the electric motor. His son Mehedi also suffered an electric shock when he tried to rescue his father.

Relatives rushed them to Gopalganj Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Mohammad Ikram Hossain, in-charge of Gopinathpur Police Investigation Centre, said both were declared dead by doctors after they were taken to the hospital, reports UNB.
