Two brothers drown in pond in Narayanganj

Two brothers drowned in a pond while trying to retrieve a football during a game in Sonargaon upazila of the district.


The incident occurred around 11:00 am today in Rayertek area under Kanchpur union.

The deceased were identified as Adnan, 10, and his younger brother Abraham, 7, sons of Ziaur Rahman from Pirojpur village in Kushtia district. The family had been living in a rented house in the Rayertek area of Sonargaon. The two children were students of a local madrasa.

According to police, the brothers were playing football near a pond in the morning. At one stage, the ball fell into the water. While trying to retrieve it, both of them went into the pond and drowned.

When they did not return for a long time, locals became suspicious. Later, after hearing a woman's scream, nearby people rushed to the scene and began searching the pond. The two children were eventually rescued and taken to a nearby hospital, where the doctor declared them dead.

Confirming the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police of Narayanganj, Imran Ahmed, told BSS that the children drowned while trying to retrieve a football from the pond. He added that police visited the scene after receiving the information, reports BSS.
