A bomb threat on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight bound for Kathmandu triggered heightened security measures at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) this afternoon, prompting the authorities to evacuate passengers safely and suspend the flight pending clearance.

“At 4:26 pm today, an anonymous phone call raised a bomb threat on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG373 (Boeing 737-800, destination Kathmandu). At the time, the aircraft was taxiing with 142 passengers and 7 crew members on board,” HSIA’s Executive Director Group Captain SM Ragib Samad told media this afternoon.

Under the directive of the CAAB Chairman, he said emergency measures were immediately taken while as first responders, the Air Force task force and AVSEC swiftly established a security perimeter around the aircraft, while the Bangladesh Air Force bomb disposal unit and APBn’s dog squad arrived at the scene.

Subsequently, the RAB bomb disposal team joined them to conduct inspections of the aircraft interior and luggage, he said, adding all passengers were safely disembarked, screened, and sent to the airport lounge.

All flight operations for take offs and landings at the airport have remained normal, and the situation is fully under control.

“The flight will depart as soon as it is cleared by the security authority,” Biman’s General Manager (Public Relations) ABM Rausan Kabir told BSS.
