Ferry services on Shimulia-Banglabazar route have been suspended for an indefinite period from Wednesday.

Munshiganj, Aug 18 :  Ferry services on Shimulia-Banglabazar route have been suspended for an indefinite period from Wednesday due to strong current in the Padma River.

Assistant director general of Bangladesh Inland and Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Shafiqul Islam, said the ban has been effective from 3 pm Wednesday.

However, passenger launches are moving in the river.

On August 13, the government suspended movement of ferries on the route at night time to avoid accidents.

Five ferries operated since Wednesday morning on the route.

Passengers and vehicles have been asked to use alternative Paturia-Doulatdia and Chandpur-Shariatpur routes for river crossing, reports UNB.
