The accident occurred around 9:30am, just before the Dhaka-bound Jamalpur commuter train entered Gafargaon Railway Station, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mymensingh Railway Police Station Md Akhtar Hossain said.
Witnesses said the train suddenly made a loud noise before the five coaches behind the engine veered off the track. No casualties or major damage were, however, reported.
Train services on the route were suspended following the accident, the OC said, adding that a relief train from Kewatkhali Loco Shed was sent to the spot to salvage the derailed coaches.
Several trains, including the Dhaka-bound Haor Express and Brahmaputra Express, remained stranded at different stations due to the accident, causing suffering for passengers, reports UNB.
