State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has explored opportunities to strengthen trade, investment and business cooperation between Bangladesh and Spain.

The state minister held the meeting with President of Cámara de Sevilla (Seville Chamber of Commerce) D. Francisco Herrero León in Spain, according to a foreign ministry press release issued here today.

The discussions focused on diversifying bilateral trade, attracting greater Spanish investment to Bangladesh and identifying new areas of cooperation in sectors with strong growth potential.

Both sides identified textiles and readymade garments, pharmaceuticals, leather, information technology, agriculture and renewable energy as promising sectors for expanding bilateral economic engagement.

Shama highlighted Bangladesh's potential in jute and jute-based products, alongside opportunities for collaboration in the creative economy and promotion of cultural heritage.

She emphasised the importance of exploring new avenues for business partnerships that could contribute to greater trade diversification and mutually beneficial investment.

During the meeting, the Seville Chamber of Commerce president expressed interest in organising a Bangladesh-focused business seminar in Seville at least once a year, bringing together entrepreneurs and business representatives from both countries.

He also proposed subsequently co-hosting an exposition on Bangladesh in Seville to showcase the country's products, investment opportunities and business potential to Spanish entrepreneurs.

The proposed initiatives are expected to create platforms for direct engagement between Bangladeshi and Spanish businesses, helping them explore commercial partnerships and investment prospects.

Both sides discussed the importance of exchanging business delegations and strengthening institutional cooperation between the Seville Chamber of Commerce and leading Bangladeshi business organisations, including the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).

They also explored opportunities for cooperation in modernising vocational training centres and developing industry-relevant skills to meet evolving labour market demands.

The discussions covered the exchange of information and potential educational opportunities for Bangladeshi students at universities affiliated with the Seville Chamber of Commerce.

Both sides expressed their commitment to maintaining regular dialogue and pursuing practical initiatives to translate the discussions into tangible economic cooperation.

The meeting reaffirmed Bangladesh and Spain's shared interest in expanding business partnerships, strengthening institutional connectivity and unlocking new opportunities for trade and investment, reports BSS.
