A human chain was staged in Kuakata on Saturday demanding safety of Kuakata Beach.

Patuakhali: Holding placards and banners with slogans like "Save Kuakata, Save Tourism", various socio-cultural organizations, investors in the tourism industry, tourists and local common people have formed a human chain demanding protection of Kuakata beach in Patuakhali. The human chain was held at 11 am on Saturday (July 26) on the beach road adjacent to Kuakata Tourism Park with the participation of several hundred people.

Kuakata Press Club, Kuakata Municipal BNP, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam, Kuakata Hotel-Motel Employees Association, Kuakata Voice Club, Kuakata Tourist Boat Owners Association, Kuakata Tour Operators Association (TOAAC), Kuakata Food Restaurant Owners Association, Kuakata Small Business Cooperative Association, Kuakata Artist Group, Suhrid Sambhal, Kuakata Photographers Association, tourists and locals participated in it with banners of their respective organizations.

At this time, the speakers said that the beauty and environment of the beach have reached the brink of destruction due to continuous erosion of the sea. As a result, the interest of tourists is decreasing, which is a threat to the tourism economy of Kuakata. Therefore, they sought urgent intervention from the government demanding urgent protection of the beauty of the beach, improvement of waste management, eviction of illegal occupants of the beach and increase in tourist facilities.

The participants in the human chain alleged that despite sending several project proposals to protect the beach over the past few years, they have not seen the light of day for mysterious reasons. We appeal to the government to take effective steps to prevent erosion.-they added

The participants in this hour-long human chain, holding placards and banners, also said that Kuakata is our national asset - it is everyone's responsibility to protect it.

In this regard, Syed Tarikujjan Tuhin, Assistant Engineer of the Water Development Board Kalapara Circle, said that extensive erosion has occurred on the Kuakata sea beach in the last two days due to the impact of low pressure and tidal waves. We have taken the initiative to inspect it and take immediate action. We will start the work of installing geo bags and geo tubes from tomorrow. This will play a role in preventing erosion temporarily to some extent. - Gofran Palash
