Sign boards and dustbins were set up for a clean Kuakata on Thursday 5 Nov 2026.

Patuakhali: To help transform Kuakata into an international-standard beach, Lovana Jamil, Assistant Director of the Department of Environment (Patuakhali), has installed signboards featuring slogans about keeping the beach clean, along with dustbins, at the beach’s 'Zero Point.'

The initiative, which took place on Thursday morning (November 5), was supported by over a hundred volunteers, including members of the Kuakata Tourist Police, the Tour Operators Association of Kuakata (TOAK), the voluntary organization 'Dhumketu,' the Coastal Environment Protection Movement (Kuakata), 'Animal Lovers of Patuakhali,' and the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (Student Wing of the BNP).

Following a cleanup drive that covered approximately half a kilometer west of the beach's Zero Point, the organizers cautioned local business owners and spread the message about the importance of maintaining a clean beach.

Those present included Yasin Sadek, Administrator of the Kuakata Municipality; Asaduzzaman Miraj, Secretary General of the Tour Operators Association of Kuakata (TOAK); KM Bachchu, Convener of the Coastal Environment Protection Movement (Kuakata); Nechar Uddin Howlader, Member Secretary of the Kuakata Municipal Chhatra Dal; and Shamim Reza, General Secretary of the Kuakata Tour Guide Association, among others.

Nechar Uddin Howlader, Member Secretary of the Kuakata Municipal Chhatra Dal, stated, "The youth must come forward to build a clean Kuakata. This should not be limited to a one-day campaign; we need to foster a habit of keeping the beach clean on a regular basis and ensuring that waste is disposed of in designated areas. We are committed to providing our full support for this cause."

Asaduzzaman Miraj, Secretary General of the Tour Operators Association of Kuakata (TOAK), stated, “The sea beach is the primary attraction of the tourism industry in Kuakata. An unclean beach sends a negative message to tourists. Everyone involved in the tourism sector must ensure cleanliness from their respective positions. Furthermore, tourists need to be made aware of the importance of not littering indiscriminately.”

Yasin Sadek, Administrator of the Kuakata Municipality, noted that the municipality is undertaking various initiatives to develop Kuakata into a clean and tourist-friendly town. However, this cannot be achieved by the municipality alone. A clean Kuakata can only be realized through the collective efforts of local residents, business owners, tourists, and voluntary organizations. - Gofran Palash
