Webinar on Rohingya crisis Aug 25.
August 25 marks Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day and the start of the Rohingya people's tenth year in exile from Myanmar. Today, nearly 1.3 million Rohingya continue to live in the largest refugee settlement in the world in Bangladesh, facing ongoing restrictions on access to education and livelihoods – even as international aid has dropped precipitously. Tens of thousands have taken dangerous journeys by sea to reach other destinations. Thousands more have faced arbitrary detention and the risk of forced return to Myanmar. An estimated 500,000 Rohingya remain in Myanmar amid an ongoing civil war and atrocities at the hands of the Arakan Army.
The year ahead risks further deterioration and entrenchment – but also holds the hope for improved policies and accountability in the Rohingya genocide case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Please join Refugees International, Refugee Women for Peace and Justice (RWPJ), Burma Rohingya Organization of the UK, Women's Peace Network, American Jewish World Service (AJWS), Jewish Rohingya Justice Network, and Fortify Rights for a webinar to hear from Rohingya activists and legal and humanitarian experts about challenges and ways forward in the next year before the Rohingya exile reaches a full decade. – Refugees International
