Abdur Rahim, a senior member of the Jatiya Press Club, former chief information officer and executive editor of the now defunct The Bangladesh Observer newspaper, has passed away.
He died on Saturday morning due to old age complications while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital. He was 88. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a host of relatives and friends.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held at the National Press Club at 11am on Tuesday.
He will be buried at Banani graveyard after second namaz-e-janaza at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Zohr prayers.
Abdur Rahim was born on July 25, 1936 at village Joykrishnapur in Noakhali district. He worked in different media including the now defunct Daily Millat, The Envoy, Observer. He was the Bangladesh Representative to the United Nations in 1980 and the Minister of Press at the Bangladesh High Commission in London. He was a part-time lecturer in the Department of Journalism at Dhaka University. His notable publications are Nishacharer Nishidin, Suprabhat Bangladesh and Tetimony of a War Criminal.
