
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today said political parties should take an oath to work together to change the destiny of the countrymen.
"The people of Bangladesh are now looking to all of us, especially to the political parties, with great hope and aspirations. Today, at this Iftar mahfil, let's take an oath in the name of Allah that our future works will be to change the destiny of the country's people," he said.
"Let's we seek help and divine guidance of Almighty Allah so that He grants us the ability and strength to work for changing the nation's fate," he added.
The premier made the remarks while delivering his welcome address at the Iftar mahfil hosted by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for political parties and eminent citizens at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC) here this afternoon.
Referring to the recent national elections through which his party formed the government with landslide victory, Tarique Rahman said through this election, the journey of democracy has begun anew in the country.
For this democracy, he said the country's people have sacrificed for more than a decade, enduring repression, persecution, enforced disappearances and killings.
Through this immense sacrifice and suffering by thousands, the premier said, "We have regained the opportunity to exercise our individual and democratic rights".
Calling for expressing gratitude to the Almighty Allah for granting opportunity to reinstate the democracy, Tarique Rahman urged the political parties to work with unity for the welfare of the country's people.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader of the Parliament Dr Shafiqur Rahman presided over the event, reports BSS.
