July Charter implementation will change Bangladesh: Adviser

"The referendum is meant to implement the aspirations of the July martyrs and to build a new Bangladesh. If the July Charter is implemented through the referendum, it will renovate Bangladesh," he said.

The adviser made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at an awareness meeting on referendum campaign and voter awareness campaign at Louhajang Upazila Parishad auditorium today.

He said the referendum aims to ensure that there would be no more enforced disappearances or extrajudicial killings in the country. 

Calling for safeguarding the commitment of all for a new Bangladesh, he urged voters to cast 'yes' ballots in the referendum scheduled for the February 12.

Adilur Rahman Khan said Bangladesh remained under repression for 15 years, during which people could not speak freely and even freedom of thought was absent. 

"The people of Bangladesh would no longer bow to any repression once the July Charter would be implemented," he added. 

He said the referendum is being held to seek the consent of the people of Bangladesh on the charter prepared collectively by all political parties in favour of rebuilding the country.

Louhajang Upazila Nirbahi Officer Farzana Bibi Mitra presided over the meeting.

Local Government Division Secretary Md Rezaul Maksud Zahidi, Chief executive officer Najma Nahar and Srinagar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Anisur Rahman spoke as special guests, reports BSS.
