BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said that the people of Bangladesh have regained their voting rights after a long time.

Fakhrul made the remarks while talking to reporters after submitting his nomination paper to contest the 13th parliamentary election from the Thakurgaon-1 constituency.

Earlier in the day, he submitted the nomination paper to Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Ishrat Farzana. “I want to offer thanks to Almighty Allah as I have been given an opportunity to work for the people through this nomination,” Fakhrul said.

He said that if elected with the love and support of the people, he would work to develop the overall infrastructure of Thakurgaon, improve the social environment, strengthen educational institutions, enhance the socio-economic system and expand economic activities.

“Creating employment opportunities will be my top priority. I will also try to address the problems faced by farmers,” he added.

Seeking votes, Fakhrul urged voters to support him as they had done in the past and ensure his victory by voting for the sheaf of paddy symbol.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Maulana Delwar Hossain also submitted his nomination paper to the Returning Officer to contest the election from the Thakurgaon-1 constituency, reports UNB.
