Newly appointed Netherlands Ambassador to Bangladesh Boris van Bommel paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman at the party chief's office in Bashundhara this afternoon.

The meeting was held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, officials said.

The Ambassador was accompanied by First Secretary (Political Affairs) Cor Stouten and Senior Political Adviser Lubain Masum of the Netherlands Embassy in Dhaka.

The Jamaat Ameer was joined by Assistant Secretary General and head of the party's Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Foreign Affairs Adviser Professor Dr. Mahmudul Hasan, and educationist Dr. Zubair Ahmed.

During the discussion, both sides exchanged views on the current political landscape in Bangladesh, the state of democracy and human rights, as well as bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the Netherlands.

They also discussed matters related to trade and economic cooperation.

Both parties expressed optimism that the existing friendly relations between the two countries would continue to strengthen in the coming days, reports BSS.
