Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today addressed the nation this afternoon.

Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus on Thursday (November 13) urged all political parties that supported the July Uprising to remain united to ensure a free, fair, and inclusive election in February, warning that any division could endanger the nation’s hard-earned progress.

“The unity the people forged in the face of death must not be weakened by minor disagreements or conflict,” he said in a televised address to the nation in the afternoon.

Prof Yunus said the people of Bangladesh had been deprived of their voting rights for nearly one and a half decades, and they are now determined to exercise that right in the upcoming election.

“We must honour the sacrifices of 133 children, hundreds of young men and women, and thousands of others who were injured or lost limbs,” he said, calling for tolerance and mutual respect among all political forces.

“The people of this country only wish that, in respect for the countless victims, we show tolerance toward differing opinions, rise above partisan interests, and uphold our collective aspirations and national goals,” Prof Yunus added.

He expressed hope that political parties would accept the decision on the implementation of the July Charter in the broader national interest, paving the way for a festive and participatory national election in February.

“Through this, we will step into a new Bangladesh. We are now at the threshold of building that new nation,” Prof Yunus concluded.
