The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expressed full support for the ongoing movement of teachers under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme, terming their demands logical and justified. However, the party cautioned that it would not tolerate any attempt to exploit the teachers’ protest to create unrest or hinder the country’s democratic transition ahead of the forthcoming national election.

In a statement on Saturday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the BNP and its Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman stand in full solidarity with the teachers’ demands for fair wages, improved benefits, and recognition of their vital role in nation-building.

“As a responsible political party, BNP agrees in principle with the fair demands of teachers,” Fakhrul said. “We believe that ensuring their financial stability, job security, and social dignity is essential for real progress in education and national development.”

He emphasised that no meaningful reform or development initiative can succeed without modernising the education system and guaranteeing teachers’ welfare.

“If the BNP is entrusted with the responsibility to govern again through people’s votes, it will actively consider expanding teachers’ financial security, making their employment permanent, and gradually bringing all educational institutions under nationalisation in line with the state’s financial capacity,” he said.

At the same time, the BNP leader warned against any political manipulation of the teachers’ movement. “If elements of the fallen autocratic regime attempt to misuse this logical movement to create chaos or destabilise the country before the election, BNP will firmly resist such malicious efforts,” Fakhrul declared.

He reiterated the party’s firm stance on safeguarding a peaceful and democratic transition through a free and fair election, saying, “BNP will show zero tolerance toward any conspiracy aimed at obstructing the democratic process.”

Fakhrul concluded by calling upon all stakeholders to resolve the teachers’ issues through dialogue and mutual understanding, ensuring that the movement remains peaceful and focused on legitimate educational reforms.
